Although they lack official recognition, many of them have been invented themselves via flags, currencies, or even constitutions.

The Principality of Sealand: Established in 1967 by Paddy Roy Bates, Sealand is located on a former World War II sea fort in the North Sea. It has claimed independence of its own flag, currency, and even a royal family.

Cultural Significance: It has become a symbol of independence and creativity. It has inspired people across the world for its motto, E Mare Libertas, meaning, “From the Sea, Freedom.” It goes on attracting attention as one of the most unique and dominant micro-nations.
